Vianden, Luxembourg

Back in March I visited Mr X in Europe during the middle of his stay out there. He picked me up in Frankfurt, Germany and we immediately drove into Luxembourg. We stayed in a charming little town on the north-eastern side of the country called Vianden. The population is roughly 1500 people. It's a popular destination for people from Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium, though its not particularly well known to other foreigners. Our hotel was very appropriately named the Hotel Belle-Vue. We arrived in the evening so Mr X took this excellent shot from our room's balcony:

It's the town's castle, in case you were wondering. We wandered around quite a bit that evening and also the next morning but we didn't linger too long because we had some WWII and WWI sites to explore. I'll post those pictures later.

The shot above and below were taken along our hike up to the castle. It was a refreshing and beautiful hike. The river that runs through the town is called the Our River.

In this picture you can see the castle above and then the white building at the edge of the river is where Mr X and I ate dinner. It was a delicious meal. Mr X almost ordered the horse but then decided against it at the last minute.

The French writer Victor Hugo (Les Miserables, The Hunchback of Notre Dame) spent some quality time in Vianden in 1871. There's now a museum dedicated to him there with a collection of his sketches and letters. Unfortunately for us it was closed during our stay in the town. But at least I got a picture next to a bust of Victor outside the museum, right? Close enough.
