Colorado's Columbine Flowers

I had never seen the Columbine flower before moving to Colorado. At first I didn't even know what it was even though I was seeing them all around this spring. They grow wild and so Mr X and I usually saw them scattered about the woods during our hikes. I loved them instantly. Colorado's state flower is actually the Blue Columbine. It's the flower in this first photo below. Here are a few photos of the many different varieties that I have found here.







I think the 'spurred' petals are the most fascinating part of the flower.

I love columbines. Unfortunately, I have a tendency to kill them. I have given up planting them. They keep dying.
