Calving Season

Springtime is calving season for the buffalo here. I didn't even think about it until one day Mr X and I were driving around and we noticed the buffalo herd and there were these little light brown additions to the group. So we went and got our camera a few days later and tracked the herd down again for some photos of the babies. They are adorable.


Notice the shaggy winter coat that is coming off in patches. It's amusing to watch the buffalo lean up against the tree trunks and scratch their hides like mad. They also roll around on the ground practically upside down to scratch themselves on their sides and back. They are such big animals that they just look awkward doing this.

Mr X tried to capture this one sitting down, having a rest but the little guy got up too fast:
