London

Mr X and I recently returned from the UK. Mr X was there for many weeks and I joined him for two weeks at the end. We had originally planned to tour around both England and Scotland during our stay but after a bit more research we decided to stick with just one country because we didn't relish the idea of spending half our vacation driving in the car. As it turns out, even though the UK looks like a teeny little speck of land on maps, it's not THAT small.

I prepared for my trip by watching British period-piece shows nonstop: Pride & Prejudice, Jane Eyre, Sense & Sensibility, North & South, Cranford, Downton Abbey, etc... You get the picture. I noticed that in all of those shows, England was fairly sunny. Most days weren't raining. I figured that since I would be there in May, the weather would be decent at least a good chunk of the time. I was very, very wrong. I think there were maybe two days during my two weeks that were free from precipitation. Boo hoo! Oh well. At least I didn't actually live there.

My first weekend in the UK I spent in London with Mr X. The weather was pretty much torrential downpours the entire weekend. We had a few hours here and there of misty-rain or lighter rain. We ran outside during these times and tried to see as much as possible of London. We didn't take very many photos because we didn't want to ruin our camera by getting it wet so I only have a few to show you. We still had a really nice time, despite the inclement weather. Here are a few of our London shots for you:

The Union Jack

Buckingham Palace
The London Eye. We also saw Parliament, Big Ben, etc. All the usuals.

Did I mention that not only was it wet out, it was so cold!

This is the National Gallery. When it was too rainy we ducked into churches (Westminster Abbey, etc), museums (Victoria and Albert Museum, etc), and shops (Harrod's, etc) to dry off and get warm. It was nice.
