Additional August Goings-On

Mr X's dad came to visit us for a week this month. It was a really lovely visit. We failed to take photos but, not to worry, my FIL was great about taking pictures and he was gracious enough to send some our way. So these pictures are courtesy of him.(Thank you very much, Mr X's Dad.)

We road the Georgetown Loop Railroad Dinner Train. It was a fun adventure.

We drove around in RMNP to see all of the beautiful sights. The day started off sunny and nice but by the time we got to the top of Trail Ridge Road it was in the 30's and snowing and blowing. My FIL is visiting from AZ so not only was the altitude a shock for his body, the temperature was too!

Mr X and I enjoying the Alluvial Fan in RMNP.

At the Mount Goliath Visitor Center to enjoy the Bristlecone Pines.

It is my personal belief that the sign here has a question mark at the end because it's a bit questionable that we climbed this particular 14er. We didn't. We drove to the top and then hiked the last 150 feet. That 150 feet is worth it because of the incredible views it affords.

The wildlife were out in force, which always pleases me when we have guests. We saw deer, elk, marmots, bighorn sheep and mountain goats.

Some acquaintances of ours invited us to celebrate Swiss National Day with them (yes, they are Swiss) at their home. I believe we were invited largely because Mr X's sociable dad speaks French, as do they. This celebration included Raclette so of course I was delighted because that meant large amounts of delicious sizzling cheese would be consumed.

Mr X took the day off (I couldn't so I was working) and he and his dad toured the US Olympic Training Center as well as Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs.
