Paddle Boarding and Key Lime Pie

During the first part of our stay in Florida, Mr X and I stayed in a great hotel on a small island off the coast of Florida. It was an older hotel and it showed it's age a bit but it was also fairly luxurious and nice. I loved our room because of it's fantastic ocean views as well as the views of Key Biscayne. I took some pictures of our room:

After sundown I liked to turn out all of the lights and gaze out over the water. It was really nice.

This was the view from our balcony:

One morning we decided to go rent paddle boards and go exploring out in the bay. The water is amazingly calm, nothing like the water Mr X and I are used to on the west coast, so paddle boarding is much easier in Florida. We paddle boarded for a good solid two hours. I mapped our route for you below, in red. We went quite a long way.

While we were out enjoying our excursion we saw loads of different kinds of fish (the water was crystal clear) and puffer fish. We also saw dolphins and sting rays. I even spotted a shark - which was a bit freaky because the paddle boards aren't particularly comforting when you see a shark int he water right next to you. Mr X, being who he is, decided to try to chase the shark. It swam my direction as a result. As scary as those creatures are, they are also surprisingly sleek and beautiful and impressive. It was fun to see one like that.

At the end of our day Mr X and I figured we should share a slice of key lime pie. We had to, right? I mean, we were in Florida. Plus, pie is just delicious and should never be passed up. This pie didn't disappoint. I was bummed that I didn't order my very own piece of pie because it was so yummy, but I was also relieved that I didn't order my own because I would have greedily eaten every last crumb myself and felt terrible later.
