I can't believe how quickly this year is passing. It is almost scary. All the stores have their Halloween and Thanksgiving stuff all out and I even saw one with Christmas stuff out already. The guy that sits next to me at work has had his cube all decked out Halloween style for a couple weeks now. Seeing all that and hearing people talking about their potential costume choices reminded me of something from my grade school experience:
My mom dressed me up as a witch a lot. At least it seemed that way to me. I also recall that she did a great job making me a very scary and ugly witch. My face was caked with pukey green costume make-up, complete with fake warts drawn on. I was hideous. I remember nervously heading off to school in all my witchy splendor and wondering what everybody else would be wearing. Once there I discovered that I was the only grotesque looking witch in a sea of princesses and fairies. I was mortified.
Looking back on the situation now, I am glad that my mom dressed me up like that. I mean, it's Halloween! Isn't the theme of this holiday supposed to be all about paranormal things like ghouls/witches/monsters/etc? Why the hell are there princesses and puppies and little Nemo's running around? What is scary about that? When and how did Disney hijack Halloween anyway?
If you are going to be a princess, at least be an undead one or something.

Oh great. Child #1 is going to be a dog this year (by his own choice). I guess I had better make him a rabid dog or something equally disturbing. At least child #2 is going to be a little devil -- terrifying.
P.S. I'm with you, I love Halloween, but not necessarily the princesses. Never was a princess myself.
His Lion last year was good enough. A dog isn't that scary, but one with rabies, that's good! A devil will be a good one. I can't wait to see the pictures. One year my neices dressed up as Jasmine and the other was Snow White. Blech.
I used 'good' way too much in that comment. sorry.
Good to know I am ruining Benjamin's life by making him Nemo for his first Halloween. At least he likes the scary stuff - we tried on a bunch of masks at Target the other day to try and scare him and he just laughed and laughed. But yes, I like the scary aspect more than the cute.
Well I suppose infants don't really count because even if you do try to make your baby scary he would probably just end up looking cute. (unless they are JUST born - then they just look like aliens anyway so you've got it covered on that one)
