My new job

I started my new job last Monday. To sum it up - so far so good. If you want the long version, here it is:

I like the company and my boss a lot. The job itself is much less stressful than my last, and that's great. The only negatives are the fact that we aren't allowed to use the Internet for much at all, it's locked down so severely. They have 'Internet stations' in the employee lounge (which is very nice - complete with couches and a pool table) where we can log in to do personal things. That makes blogging from work difficult, but we'll see how that all works out. They aren't generous with vacation time, however, they do have many other perks of which I fully intend on taking advantage (like $5 movie tickets, etc).

Anyway, that's a quick update on me. I'll try to do a better update later. I need to fill you in on my adventures from this past weekend, complete with pictures. Meanwhile, this will have to do - now you don't have to see that awful title from my last post front and center whenever you check my blog.

I swear that even your "toned down" employee benefits at your new job sound INCREDIBLE compared to the perks we got at my former employment. Monkey Bucks. That's right. I used to earn $5 at a time in Monkey Bucks for a job well done. And, no, in case you are wondering, Monkey Bucks are not legal tender.

Well, we do get Penguin Points...They aren't legal tender either, but they transfer to the equivalent of legal tender when you trade them in for movie tickets or Amex cash cards...

i get lots of perks. besides the obvious hugs and sticky or snotty kisses, i also get to wake up to crying at 5 am every day! constant noise, frequent quarrels, occasional puke cleaning, and loads of butt wiping. most days i don't know why i chose this. monkey bucks and penguin points sound way better.

can i send you two of my kids? that sure would make it easier on me. and i get to choose which two.

For further clarification --

Monkey Bucks could be exchanged for a hat with a monkey on it, or a sweat shirt with a monkey on it, or a lanyard with, (you know it) a monkey on it.

So I guess Monkey Bucks really are just that. You can't get anything but monkeys with them. Did you not get very many Monkey Bucks then? Because I don't think I've ever seen you wearing something with a Monkey on it. You should wear those things with pride as you undoubtedly worked so hard to earn them!

Either way, though, Mindy wins the contest for the crummiest perks. She even beats you right now Nicole because she's got 3 kids and the impending arrival of a 4th any moment now...

Follow Up --

I handed over about $50 in Monkey Bucks to my replacement when I left that job. I just couldn't bring myself to go in the "Monkey Store".

I think my father does have the ball cap with a monkey on it that I got for technician appreciation week. I was not a technician, but I did feel appreciated.
