UK Food

I failed to take many photos of the food I had in England. How sad, don't you think? I put what pictures I did manage to snap and then found some interweb photo substitutions of other things I tasted. Here we go:

The meat pie. This particular one I ordered below (steak and stilton pie, to be precise) was by far and away the most delicious thing I ate the entire trip. I even had another meat pie (steak and Guinness) that very much paled in comparison to this delicious monster. Our B&B owner sent us to this place, saying that it was famous for it's pies and we had to have one. She was spot-on.

Here is one of our Cornish Pasties. I tried a couple during my trip. One was terrible and mushy and flavorless and this one was crisp and flavorful but it still failed to 'wow' me.

I may have already posted this picture of the 'cream tea' service. They really make fantastic biscuits and preserves in the UK. We brought several jars of unusual jams home with us: Gooseberry & Elderberry jam as well as kumquat marmalade. And that clotted cream sounds unappetizing but it really is perfect with biscuits and jam.

(The rest of the food photos were found online.)

Fish & Chips. It would have been a shame if I'd gone to England and NOT indulged in fish n' chips. It was good. The fish was fresh and tender and moist - better fish quality than what I've had for fish n' chips in the US. But the fries weren't great. In the US the fries tend to be more crisp. Most of the fries I had in the UK were a bit more mushy than I like.

British Flapjacks. Yum a thousand times. You should definitely get your hands on some quality bakery made flapjacks. They are simple and delicious. Oats, butter, sugar, golden syrup all baked to perfection. I think Mr X tried these nearly everywhere we went, in search of The Best one ever.

Sticky Toffee Pudding. I ordered it twice. Once it was mouthwatering deliciousness. The other time it was a sad disappointment.

A note about the Indian food in the UK: The Best Ever - hands down. I made Mr X take me to Indian food probably 3 or 4 times. He thought it was wonderful too but he wasn't interested in it for each meal. I could have eaten it every night. Now I'm spoiled though - I've never, not once, had Indian food of this caliber in the US. French food and Indian food are my favorite cuisines.
