How much does beauty cost?

One of my coworkers came into work the other day and reported that his fiance had gone to a Mary Kay party the night before. Apparently she came home $200 poorer. Some of my other coworkers chuckled at this, saying that it won't be the last time this happens. I don't think I've ever dropped $200 at once on beauty products, but if I add up my yearly purchases I'm sure I go over that number but by how much I don't really know. *blush* So I wonder how much I spend on beauty products each year... Do you know how much $ you drop each year on this? Have you ever spent $200 or more in one shot? (I'm including things such as lotions and hair products in that category as well...)

i've never been big on make-up. i just don't like the feel of too much on my face. i'm sure that i'll get more into anti-aging stuff as i, ahem, age. i'm such a cheapskate though, i especially can't spend money on myself. i can however, drop $100 at target like it's nobody's business. and this last week as i prepared for the invasion of other kids, i went NUTS, and came out of there spending over $200 (don't tell kevin) on crap. candy, stickers, frozen nuggets, pizza, and a bunch of dollar items to "motivate" with. i walked out of there completely disgusted with myself.

I did just drop $200 on make up at NM's. Eek. I say roughly I spend about a grand on products a year. I review them for a living. I'm obviously a whore.

I am such a cheapskate when it comes to make-up. I don't think I have ever bought a beauty product outside of Target and even then, the sale items seem to catch my eye.
I just can't help not wanting to spend a ton of money on something I literally wash off my face and down the drain every night.

I also tend to be a skeptic of all the outrageous claims of those "upper-crust" beauty products. I mean, come on, have you ever used a mascara that NEVER clumped?! Exactly.

Actually Nicole, I have to confess that I won't buy anything but 'upper crust' mascara (if i can afford it at the time) because it goes on soooooo much better. The rest my makeup I have no problem buying from places like target, but not my mascara. Then again, I have short sparse lashes so that might have something to do with why I'm a mascara snob.

Vicky - I am so jealous of all the freebies you're going to get from your NM purchase. Plus, if you are reviewing them for a living you've got to see to it that you're an expert, right? Plus, it's fun...

Mindy - Target is deadly that way, I think. (I love those dollar items they always have too - they suck me in every time.) Don't worry, I won't tell Kevin (and Mr X won't either).
