Last week's news

Last Friday a coworker with whom I share my workspace just spontaneously barfed in his garbage can.....which is right next to me....which permeated the air with the stench of vomit...which made me both furious and nauseous. He walked in here with Lotta Burger (for those of you not from NM, it's like In N Out except it's not as tasty) for breakfast - a wise choice - inhaled it and then spewed it back out for me to enjoy and promptly left with chunks of vomit splash-back all over his shirt. Let that be a lesson to us all - never eat at Lotta Burger, especially for breakfast.

Earlier in the week another coworker with whom I had been working closely with on an issue for several days received word that his test for strep throat (apparently he'd had a sore throat all week and never mentioned a word to anyone and only got tested because his wife found out yesterday that SHE had strep throat) was positive. A few days before that two other people that I sit next to at work were both out of the office, sick with a flu of some sort. And my supervisor, who I also sit near, has had some sort of chronic head cold for what seems like months now.

So with Mr Strep Throat, Mr Spontaneous Vomit, Mr Perpetual Head Cold and both Mr Flu guys - I'm feeling like this whole office is contaminated with infectious germs and I'm so freaking grossed out. I feel like I need to exit this germ infested building and soak in a tub of disinfectant.

Just so you know, I seem to evaded these bugs thus far (knocking on wood...). Hopefully I will be able to continue to be healthy.

Now you know how I feel when students come to my house, cough and sneeze all over my keyboard and get sick in my bathroom. I feel like I can't run far enough! I want to scream. I keep disinfectant wipes for the piano. The tuner says it is bad for the finish. I know and don't care. I gargle with salt water and rinse my sinuses with salt water (protocol from my allergist) and I still feel contaminated! Hope you are still well when you read this.

this sounds awful-hope you've made it through unharmed!

I understand your disgust. I feel the same way when I send my kids to nursery classes and I peek in the door to see snot and drool flying everywhere. I feel the need for a decontamination chamber outside the classroom door. I have also considered clipping a mini bottle of Purell to their waistband, in hopes that it will act as some sort of magic sanitizing charm and ward the nasty microbes away. Yeah right.

I can support decontamination rooms - especially in areas where children gather together.
