A Random Memory

The other day I was reminiscing about when Mr X and I were dating. Not long before we got married my parents said the following to Mr X (on separate occasions):

My dad said, "She's your problem now."
My mother said, "Have you ever heard that expressions, 'you've got a tiger by the tail'?"

When I later googled that expression I discovered that it's also the title to a Grateful Dead song. Here are some of the lyrics to that song:

I've got a tiger by the tail it's plain to see
I won't be much when you've got through with me
Well I'm losing weight and I'm turning mighty pale
Looks like I've got a tiger by the tail

Well I thought the day I met you you were meek as a lamb
Just the kind to fit my dreams and plans
Now the pace we're living takes the wind from my sails
And it looks like I've got a tiger by the tail

This all makes me wonder exactly how difficult of a child (or teenager) I really was growing up. And I certainly hope Mr X can't relate to those lyrics...

I love the "She's your problem now" quote. That one made me chuckle. I will admit that I have heard it said that at some point in the distant past you might have been a bit of "a pill", but I'm not naming any names. Besides, isn't feistiness a sign of health and vitality? :)

Hey, though you had your moments and we were challenged, we wouldn't trade you for anything. Just the other day Dad said you had turned into a treasure and he wouldn't trade anything for you. Even the memories have changed to "humorous". But we won't recant the "tiger by the tail" statement. It was and is true. But it is a compliment. No Dewey/Gilbert cross has a chance of being a lamb. It isn't in the genes.
