So your responses to my post from yesterday prompted me to pose this question to you: If everybody has some sort of 'nerdy' tendencies, what are yours?
Aside from my obsession with counting and calculating everything, here are some of mine:
1) On occasion, I have been known to read and thoroughly enjoy science-fiction novels. (One of my all-time favorite books is "Ender's Game" *blush*) Mr X harasses me to no end on this one but he can't really talk because he loves to play video games. Oh and he has some sort of DRAGON-creature on his treasured snowboard. Very mythical and nerdy, no?
2) I love documentary movies. In fact, at our house we have "Documentary Sunday" every Sunday.
3) Along the same lines as #2, I love stations on TV like PBS and the History Channel. In fact, when we lived in CA, there was this UCSD science professor that regularly taught classes on the PBS station there and I LOVED it. Much to Mr X's disgust I would sit there entranced by his lectures on things like genetics and such. If Mr X had the remote for the television you can bet we'd have been watching Max X or something.
4) I am a database administrator and a developer for an accounting system. Judging by my coworkers, that's pretty high on the 'nerdy' scale.
Aside from those things, though, I'm pretty darn cool. (aha ha ha ha ha...oh please.)

Wow, you really opened the door with this one. Here it goes:
1. Huge NPR fan. It is all I listen to, especially Radio Lab. I can't get enough Radio Lab!
2. I do read sci-fi on occasion, but I am really into etymology lately. I like words. I like reading about languages, where words come from and what they "really" mean. I am a word freak. (Disclaimer: This doesn't mean my speech or writing skills are improving.)
3. I am with you on the documentaries. I like them a lot. You should check out The Future of Food if you haven't seen it already. Really good! Who Killed the Electric Car is a good one, too, seriously.
4. Lastly, I also like reading books about science: physiology, physics, biology, etc. I think this drives Gilbert a little nuts.
Wow, that was a lot. I hope you are going to do a post on what makes people cool soon. And I hope you are still willing to be associated with me. :)
You are way nerdier than me. You'd think it would make me feel good to know that but it doesn't, it just makes me feel dumb. :-) As for the deocumentaries, I did take your reccomendation and Mr X and I watched the Electric Car show - you were right, it is really good. I'll have to check out The Future of Food now.
By the way, Mr X shares your passion for NPR.
Have to agree with Nicole-
1.HUGE NPR fan. Saturday mornings we are giddy with excitement over Car Talk and Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me and then This American Life with Ira Glass.
2. Love documentaries too.
3. My love for British television- from the BBC to Extras and documentaries. I even watched one about biscuits in america. I was mesmerized.
4. History books about immigration, the Gilded Age, early New England colonies and socio-economic issues for emerging America in the 19th Century.
5. I drool over my weekly copy of Newsweek.
Got one more documentary for you, Why We War. Good, but it will make you mad.
